Rules of the SESSUN CRAFT PRIZE 2024

§1- Prize Organizer


1. SESSUN is the price organizer (hereinafter the "Organizer"). SESSUN has its registered office located at 1 rue du Capitaine Dessemond in Marseilles (13007), is registered with the Marseilles Trade and Companies Register under number 429 204 282 and is represented by Mrs. Emmanuelle François Grasset in her capacity as President.

2. For twenty-five years, the Organizer has been creating delicate women’s fashion. Playing with volumes and materials, reinventing classics and masculine/feminine codes, the Organizer writes the story of a free and inspired woman. Its approach is based on quality and valuing know-how. The Organizer pays particular attention to detail, maintaining strong values and expanding its universe to a genuine art of living.

3. The Organizer has created a unique and refined universe. This universe is reflected in its shops, particularly in its SESSUN ALMA store and its premises for which the Organizer calls on renowned craftsmen and architects to create spaces that combine architectural works with craft and artistic creations. This dialogue with the arts and others is essential to SESSUN universe, a brand that sees itself as anything but "warm, open, sincere, and accessible.”

§2- Purpose of the Prize


5. The Organizer wishes to create a ‘masterpiece’ pendant luminaire intended to decorate and illuminate the main meeting room at Sessùn's headquarters. The generously dimensioned hanging creation will grace the largest conference room in our offices which hosts presentation collections, multi-department meetings and important corporate celebrations. The winning luminaire design will be selected based on technical feasibility and eco- friendliness, along with the potential for a future version of the design to appear in Sessùn stores. The project keywords are: "PENDANT LIGHT – NATURAL – REED – ZENITH – WARMTH – MEDITERRANEAN – ENFOLD – DAY – SUSTAINABLE – SHADE – WELCOME – MOUCHARABIEH – TEXTURE – REFERENCE POINT – EXPERIENCE – LANTERN – MATERIAL - WEAVING”

6. The ‘masterpiece’ pendant luminaire will grace the largest conference room in our offices in Marseille and will be declined potentially for a future version in some Sessùn stores.

7. For this specific project, the Organizer wishes to reward the creativity of the younger generation of professionals or future professionals in the field of architecture and, in particular, their ability to imagine a project fitted to the Organizer’s universe, but revealing their distinctiveness and excellence in an unexpected manner. This is a unique opportunity to create a personal, ambitious, and innovative project (the "Prize").

§3 – Prize Participation


8. The Prize is open to any person between eighteen (18) and thirty-five (35) of age at the time of their participation who is a student or young professional, who has completed or is in the process of completing a degree in architecture and/or design or who has professional experience in these fields of activity (a "Candidate" and collectively the "Candidates"). There are no citizenship or residence requirements for participation in the Prize.

9. Participation in the Prize is free of charge.

10. To participate in the Prize, Candidates must complete an application form which can be downloaded via en.sessun.com (the "Site").

11. It is possible to submit a collective application if several Candidates wish to work together on a project. However, participation in the Prize is limited to one application per person. Therefore, the Organizer will only consider the first application submitted by the Candidate, individually or as part of a collective project, as evidenced by time stamp.

12. The application file shall include the following information:
- Information on the identity and address of the Candidate - or Candidates if it is a group project - a photocopy of ID must be provided so that the Organizer can check the information provided and, in particular, the age of the Candidates. 
- Information on the Candidate’s/Candidates' academic background and/or professional experience;
- The project documents to respond to the Prize, including:
A three (3) page portfolio of previous projects, work, or achievements;
A short biography;
A note of intent describing the project for the competition;
Three (3) pages of sketches, illustrations, technical drawings, detailed description of materials used, and production techniques to be used for the project;
Quotes from service providers for the implementation of the project, which, taken as a whole, must not exceed the overall budget of 10,000 euros (excluding VAT);

13. Application files can be completed in English or French.

14. The application file must be submitted on the Site by 11.59 pm (Paris time) on Sunday, 21 April 2024. A pop-up window will confirm that the Organizer has received the application file. 

15. By submitting his/her application file, the Candidate declares that he/she accepts these conditions for participation.

16. Any comments, questions, or complaints regarding the Prize should be sent exclusively to the Organizer, whose contact details are on the Site.

§4 – Review of Application Files


17. The Organizer will review the application files following the conditions set out in the Rules to determine whether they are eligible and complete.

18. Any incomplete application file submitted after the deadline, containing erroneous or misleading information, or not complying with all the conditions set out in the Rules will be held ineligible without the Organizer having to inform the Candidate and without this giving rise to any right to compensation for the Candidate(s), regardless of when the Organizer rejects the application file.

§5 - Selection of Winners


19. The Prize has a philanthropic and artistic calling. Therefore, application files are reviewed by architecture professionals and members of the Organizer’s management team based on criteria relating to the creativity, originality, innovative, technical and eco-friendly nature, and feasibility of the project, as well as its consistency with the Organizer’s universe.

20. The members of the jury are:
Mrs Emma François – Sessùn’s Founding President and Artistic Director ;
Mrs Julie Aleman – Director of Development at Sessùn ;
Mrs Pauline Chardin - Photographer and artistic director ;
Mrs Nathalie Dewez - Designer and founder of Massilia Design ;
Mr Gabriel Escámez - Interior designer and designer, founder of Cobalto Studio ;
Ms Capucine Guhur - Interior designer and designer, Winner of the 1st Sessùn Craft Prize 2023 ;
Mrs Isabelle Moisy Cobti - Editorial Director of Tools magazine ;
Mrs Madeleine Oltra - Interior designer and designer ;
Mr Angelo de Taisne - Interior designer and designer

21. The Organizer will select the Winners based on the qualitative criteria mentioned above.

22. It should be noted that the Organizer has no obligation to designate Winners if the level of academic background and/or quality of the submitted projects are not deemed adequate or sufficient. Similarly, the Organizer reserves the right to award any other prize or special mention to a Candidate whom the Organizer would have recognized for a specific work or achievement and would have selected for that purpose.

23. The Organizer’s decisions to select the Winners are not subject to appeal.

§6 - Announcement of Winners and Prize Awarding


24. The identity of the three (3) Winners will be announced by Monday, May 27, 2024, by email to the email address provided to the Organizer upon registration.

25. If one Winner has not responded to the Organizer’s selection by Monday, 3 June 2024, such Winner shall be deemed to give up the Prize and a new Winner may be selected if the Organizer so decides.

26. The Organizer will pay for reasonable travel and accommodation expenses incurred by the Winners for the public ceremony. These costs will only be reimbursed upon submission of receipts and subject to prior written approval by the Organizer. In general, insurance, airport services, excess baggage charges, visa fees, and all expenses of a personal nature (laundry, telephone, drinks, room service, tips, etc.) shall be borne by the Winners. Likewise, the Winners shall be responsible for complying with all administrative and health formalities necessary for staying in France in the light of their own situation, in particular, cross-border formalities and time required to fulfil them.

§7 - Prize 


27. Each of the three (3) Winners shall receive a prize from the Organizer in support of their work.

- 1st prize:


a fixed amount of 1,500 euros in cash;
a 1,000 euro voucher valid on SESSUN collections (excluding products sold under the SESSUN ALMA brand and excluding sales and discount periods);
participation in the public presentation event and communication;
production of their scenography project in one (1) edition of the object on the Organizer’s premises. The terms and conditions of this collaboration are set out in a contract, a model of which is appended to the Rules.

- 2nd prize:


a 1,000 euro voucher valid on SESSUN collections (excluding products sold under the SESSUN ALMA brand and excluding sales and discount periods);
participation in the public presentation event and communication.

- 3rd prize:

a 500 euro voucher valid on the SESSUN collections (excluding products sold under the SESSUN ALMA brand and excluding sales and discount periods);
participation in the public presentation event and communication.

28. The prizes are at the Organizer's sole discretion, and the Winners accept the prize as offered. However, the Organizer reserves the right to replace any prize with another prize equivalent in value or features, for any reason whatsoever, without being held liable in this respect.

29. If one of the Prizes is won by more than one Candidate who have submitted a collective project, the Candidates expressly acknowledge and agree that there is only one Prize. Consequently, they will divide the Prize won among themselves without SESSUN intervening in any manner in this division, which they deal with personally.  

§8 – Timetable


30. The dates mentioned in the Rules are given for information purposes only. They may be changed at the Organizer’s discretion if circumstances so require, without the Organizer being held responsible and without any harm or loss of opportunity for the Candidates, including during the selection stage of Winners by the Organizer.

31. The Organizer reserves the right to cancel, postpone or terminate the Prize at any time and without explanation, without the Candidates having any claim to compensation. The Organizer may use this possibility in the event of force majeure or if proper performance cannot be guaranteed for legal reasons.

§9 - Intellectual Property Rights


32. In the context of the application file, Candidates may be required to provide, depending on their project, materials/documents over which they have intellectual property rights (the "Content").

33. The Organizer uses the Content exclusively to analyze the Candidates' application files and select the Winners.

34. The Organizer may also make audiovisual and/or photographic reports on the Winners and/or their projects which will be made public. To this end, the Winners undertake to assign any intellectual property rights relating to photographs, images, or moving image sequences representing their projects, including Content that may be useful for presentation, communication, and promotion concerning the Prize, the Winners, and their projects, including in the context of the Organizer’s corporate communication.

35. In this context and in compliance with the purposes above, each Candidate shall assign to the Organizer, on a final, irrevocable but non-exclusive basis, all intellectual property rights about their Content as recognized by the laws or regulations of all countries as well as by current and future international conventions. This assignment is granted free of charge, for the entire world and as long as the intellectual property rights granted in each country are legally valid, including any extensions thereof.

36. Under this assignment, the Organizer shall be authorized to use all or part of the Content, by any means and as many times as it deems necessary, for analyzing the application files and for communication and promotion about the Prize. It is thus authorized - but only in strict compliance with the above-mentioned purposes - to

- reproduce all or part of the Content or have it reproduced, temporarily or permanently, whether or not in combination with other intellectual property of any kind, whether of the same or a different type, by any process known or unknown, on any medium known or unknown, in particular on paper or electronic medium;

- to display the Content or have it displayed, whether or not in combination with other intellectual property of any kind, whether of the same or a different type, in parts, by presentation or communication to the public, and by any known or unknown method of publication, broadcasting, and telecasting, in particular by any electronic communication network, such as the Internet;

- to make any adaptations, transformations, arrangements, changes, additions, deletions, or translations that the Organizer deems necessary for the use of all or part of the Contents, or have them made.

37. In order to organize the Prize, each Candidate represents to the Organizer:

- that the intellectual property rights relating to the Content legally exist and the Candidate undertakes to take the necessary steps to maintain and, where applicable, renew these rights and to pay the related costs;

- that he/she holds all the intellectual property rights allowing him/her to download the Content from the Site and to grant the above assignment, and that he/she has received, where applicable, the authorization to carry out this downloading and to grant this assignment from all persons likely to have contributed to the creation of the Content;

- that the Content does not infringe on the rights of third parties and that it is not the subject of any dispute or action for infringement, nullity, forfeiture, or claim;

- that the Organizer may freely and peacefully use the Content in compliance with the purposes defined above.

§10 - Personality Rights


38. Each Candidate/Winner shall grant the Organizer, on an irrevocable and non-exclusive basis, the authorization to use, reproduce, represent, and freely exploit, in whole or in part, his/her name, first name, and/or image (the "Personality Attributes"), by any means and as many times as the Organizer deems it necessary in connection with its communication on the Prize.

39. This authorization shall be granted free of charge for the entire world and for ten (10) years. This authorization shall cover all the rights relating to the Personality Attributes that may be recognized by the laws or regulations of all countries and by current and future international conventions.

40. This authorization shall also cover all photographs, images, or moving image sequences representing the Candidates/Winners (thus becoming part of the Personality Attributes), which may be captured and recorded on the occasion of any presentation, communication, or promotional event relating to the Prize, and the Organizer’s corporate communication, in particular in connection with the creation of any visual or audiovisual communication which will go with the public presentation of the Winners.

§11 - Independent Candidates and Conflict of Interest


41. The Candidate shall be free in his/her creative choices and the organization of his/her work. No relationship of subordination of any kind may be established between a Candidate/Winner and the Organizer. A Candidate cannot in any way and by any means be considered as the agent, employee, or partner of the Organizer. 

42. The Organizer reserves the right to exclude a Candidate at any time, or if necessary, to deprive a Winner of his/her Prize, in the event of non-compliance with the terms of these rules or of a Candidate’s or a Winner’s behavior that is likely to damage the name and reputation of the Organizer, its officers, directors or employees.

§12 - Liability 


43. The Organizer cannot be held responsible for the organization or management of the Prize, except for gross misconduct (faute lourde).

44. Each Candidate/Winner undertakes to pay any tax, duty, social security contribution, or any other possible duty of any nature whatsoever that he/she may be liable to pay, the Organizer being discharged from any liability in this respect.

45. If prizes result in any withholding tax having to be paid, the amount of the withholding tax will be deducted from the amount paid out in respect of the prize.

§13 – Personal Data


46. All data collected by the Organizer is subject to the legal provisions on data protection, including the national data protection laws in force in France (Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978, as amended) and the EU Regulation 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (the General Data Protection Regulation).

47. The Organizer collects personal data received in the context of participation in the Prize. Personal data is processed under the Organizer’s responsibility, exclusively to manage participation in the Prize, for designating the Winners, awarding the prizes, and communicating about the Prize. This data will only be used for such purpose. The Organizer will process all personal data in accordance with legal provisions (including any data protection laws as applicable). The Organizer is entitled to process the personal data received for the above-mentioned purpose insofar as necessary. After the completion and termination of the Prize, all data will be deleted. The Candidates have the right to object to, access, rectify, modify, and delete their data. To exercise these rights with effect for the future, they should write to the following address: Service Client Sessùn – 1 rue du Capitaine Dessemond – 13007 Marseille. The Candidates may thus request the cancellation of their participation and/or the processing of their data at any time, which will result in excluding the Candidates from the Prize.

§14 - Final provisions


48. If any of the provisions of these conditions for participation are or become invalid or unenforceable, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining terms of the conditions for participation.

49. The conditions for participation may be changed at any time without special notification.*

50. The French version of these rules takes precedence over any other version translated into another language.

51. French law is applicable.

Any dispute relating to the application or interpretation of these rules shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the French courts, in the absence of any amicable settlement.
