Andean explorer
RVB Books is both an independent publisher dedicated to the creation and printing of unique art books, and a gallery that presents exhibitions exploring new editorial practices.
Invited by Belmond to create a photography book on the Andean Explorer, Colin Dodgson traveled across the Peruvian Andes aboard the luxury train connecting Cuzco and Arequipa. His work captures the atmosphere of the jouney, from majestic landscapes to everyday details, with iconic stops including Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon and La Raya market.
Working on film, Dodgson develops his own photographs, imparting a warm, subtle light and a distinctive color palette that often evokes the end of the day. Inspired by painting, Dodgson is drawn equally to vast landscapes and to everyday objects: sprouting potatoes grown at 4,200 meters, rocks, plastic bottles, and a curious collection of items found at a market set up on the railway tracks. Rather than documenting the journey in a conventional way, he seeks to capture its essence and fleeting impressions. His approach, blending intuition and experimentation, perfectly aligns with Belmond’s series of limited-edition books, which invites contemporary photographers to go beyond simple representation and present their singular, artistic vision.
