JB Blunk
The fourth edition of the top-selling monograph presents a new color scheme and features a new illustration on its cover.
JB Blunk showcases the full spectrum of the artist’s practice and includes never-before-seen archive photos, alongside newly commissioned images of jewelry, ceramics, paintings, furniture, sculptures and his house, built by hand. The book contains essays by Lucy Lippard, Glenn Adamson, Fariba Bogzaran, Louise Allison Cort and René Bustamante.
The essays consider Blunk within the context of his contemporaries, materials and places. Lippard links Blunk’s interdisciplinary practice to her own attempts at an archeological, rather than linear, approach to art history and criticism. Cort and Bogzaran explore the early relationships and experiences that influenced Blunk in Japan and Northern California, respectively. An interview with Blunk from 1978 and a new interview with his long-time friend and studio assistant, Rick Yoshimoto, provide a firsthand look at Blunk’s work and process, forty-four years apart.
